In October, explore several new exhibitions on the musical history of Rolla, Missouri S&T, and the Ozarks, created by SHSMO staff and the Missouri S&T Archives. “On a Miner Note: Musical Miners and Missouri Sounds” will be on display Oct. 3-26 at the Curtis Laws Wilson Library, 2nd floor, on the Missouri S&T campus in Rolla.

"On a Miner Note" explores the history of music in Rolla and Phelps County. Learn more about the Scott family and their musical influence in the region including the establishment of the Western Conservatory of Music and the founding of a community band. Other musical avenues can be explored through the exhibit including the history of KMNR, the campus radio station of the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Also, on display is SHSMO's new travel exhibit “Broadcasting the Ozarks: A History of RadiOzark Enterprises.” The display showcases the history of Springfield's RadiOzark Enterprises, the company behind nationally-known syndicated radio programs such as The Tennessee Ernie Ford ShowThe Red Foley Show, and Shorty Thompson's Saddle Rockin' Rhythm.

Learn about Springfield's legacy as the "Crossroads of Country Music" and listen to audio clips from the RadiOzark Record Collection housed at the State Historical Society of Missouri's Springfield Research Center. The exhibition is made possible by the Melinda J. McDaniel Charitable Trust, UW, Bank of America, N. A., Trustee.

An opening reception Oct. 3 will feature archivist Haley Frizzle-Green’s presentation on the history of RadiOzark, and is the Rolla kick-off to the SHSMO 125th anniversary. Light refreshments will be served at the opening reception.

The reception and all other Archives Month events are free.
